Loyverse is good. Here’s where Ghana needs something else.

Loyverse is one of the most popular free till apps in the world, and for good reason. Here’s an honest look at what it does well, where a food business in Ghana will feel its gaps, and when Tabworthy is the better fit.

What Loyverse does well

Credit where it’s due. Loyverse:

  • is free to start, and the free version is generous: sales, sales analytics, basic inventory, a loyalty programme, a customer display, a kitchen display and more than one store;
  • has years of polish and a large community;
  • works with barcode scanners and other common hardware;
  • runs on the phones and tablets you already have.

For a lot of businesses in a lot of countries, it’s a very good answer.

Where a food business in Ghana feels the gaps

MoMo. Loyverse’s payment partners, as it lists them, are Shift4, SumUp, Tyro, Zettle and Yoco. None of them take MoMo. So in Ghana, a MoMo payment happens outside the app: somebody checks a phone, and then types it in as paid. That’s the screenshot problem, still there. Fake MoMo alerts explains why it matters.

The paid parts are in dollars. Employee management, longer sales history and advanced inventory are add-ons priced in US dollars, per employee or per store. For a business earning in cedis, the bill moves with the exchange rate.

Ghana’s taxes. VAT, NHIL and GETFund, and the Tourism Levy for licensed restaurants, on separate lines, are Ghana-specific. VAT and the Tourism Levy has the details.

Where Tabworthy is different

  • A MoMo prompt that confirms itself. Type their number, they approve on their phone, and the sale closes only when the money arrives. MTN, Telecel and AirtelTigo. Mobile money.
  • Built for no network. Every sale saves on the phone first and catches up by itself. Selling offline.
  • Cedis throughout, Ghana’s tax presets, and prices shown in cedis in the app.
  • Food and drink first: tabs that stay open while people eat, a kitchen board, delivery apps kept apart from the drawer, and credit under each customer’s name.

What people ask

Is Loyverse free?

The core app is free, including sales analytics, basic inventory, a loyalty programme, a kitchen display and more than one store. Longer sales history, employee management and advanced inventory are paid add-ons, charged in US dollars.

Does Loyverse work with mobile money in Ghana?

Its listed payment partners (Shift4, SumUp, Tyro, Zettle and Yoco) don’t take MoMo, so a MoMo payment is taken outside the app and recorded by hand.

What is a Loyverse alternative for Ghana?

Tabworthy, if MoMo prompts, selling through dumsor, cedis and Ghana’s taxes matter more to you than a long list of features.
