The basics
What is Tabworthy?
The app a food or drink business sells on. You tap what sold, take the money however it comes, cash or MoMo, and the day adds itself up. You can open it from anywhere and see how business is going. It’s made in Accra.
Who is it for?
Food and drink businesses in Ghana, to start with: chop bars, restaurants, bars and spots, cafés, bakeries, takeaways and food trucks. The app itself works for any shop, but that’s who we’re opening it to first.
What do I need to run it?
The phone or tablet you already have, Android or iPhone and iPad. There’s no machine to buy and no computer to set up. Many shops keep a cheap Android tablet on the counter and the owner keeps the app on their own phone too.
Does it work without network or light?
Yes. Every sale saves on the phone first, so cash and card-machine sales carry on with no signal at all, and everything catches up by itself when the network is back. A MoMo prompt is the one thing that needs a connection, because it has to reach your customer’s phone.
Can more than one phone sell for the same shop?
Yes. Two or more tills can sell at the same time, even offline, and they agree with each other when they reconnect. The Free plan has one till; Pro has three and Chain has nine.
Money
How does MoMo work on it?
You type the customer’s number, a prompt lands on their phone, and they approve it with their MoMo PIN. The sale only closes when the money has actually arrived, so nobody has to check a screenshot. It works with MTN, Telecel and AirtelTigo.
Who pays the MoMo charge?
Your customer, unless you choose otherwise, which is what people in Ghana are used to. The charge is 2.95% of what they approve: 1.95% to Paystack, who move the money, and 1% to Tabworthy. They see it before they approve. You can choose to carry it yourself instead.
Where does the MoMo money go?
Paystack pays it into the MoMo wallet or bank account you choose. The Payouts screen shows every payment that has landed and which sales it covered.
Does it take card?
If you already have a card machine, keep using it: you mark the sale paid on the card machine and Tabworthy records it with the rest of the day. The machine still takes the money.
Does it print receipts?
The receipt is a picture you send on WhatsApp, or anything else on the phone. You don’t need a receipt printer. If a printer is set up on the phone, you can print the same picture.
Does it do VAT?
It can add VAT, NHIL and GETFund, and the Tourism Levy, and shows each on the receipt on its own line. It is not a GRA certified invoicing system, so it doesn’t issue E-VAT invoices. Ask your accountant which rules apply to you.
Staff and control
Can I see who sold what?
On Pro, everyone behind the counter signs in with their own PIN, every sale carries their name, and you can see what each person took today and count each shift’s drawer against what it should hold.
Can my staff see how much we made?
What a cashier can open is less than what an owner can. And on a shared screen, one tap hides every cedi figure and leaves the counts and names.
What happens if a phone is stolen or dies?
Once the phone has synced, your records are in the cloud as well, so you sign in on another phone and they’re there. The copy on the phone itself is encrypted.
Price and getting it
How much does it cost?
There’s a Free plan for one person selling on one till, and it isn’t a trial. Pro, for a team, is ₵90 a month or ₵900 for a year; Chain, for more than one place, is ₵240 a month or ₵2,400 for a year. MoMo payments carry their own charge, above. The pricing page has every plan line by line.
Can I take my records with me if I leave?
Yes. Everything comes out as a spreadsheet, any time, on every plan. Your records are yours.
Can I bring my price list in?
Yes. If your menu is already in a spreadsheet, Tabworthy can bring it in, so you don’t type every item.
How do I get it?
